Today was the annual Tulsa Geological Society Picnic. It starts around one, right about when the sun is starting to beat down. Thankfully this year there was a healthy breeze to half way keep things cool. It is always at a local park and the food is wonderful. Ribs and shrimp that have been smoked starting the previous day. Ron and co-workers have fun shopping for the raffle ticket give away the day before and we arrived with a trunk full of prizes-the kids were so excited. I was hoping we would at least win one of the kids toys as we did have 5 tickets this year-but there were about 250 people there as well. The kids loved the jupiter jump and got out a lot of energy just jumping around acting like crazy kids-which they were full of because there was no water and only caffeinated pop, which Brayden managed to drink about 3 cups.
The raffle was very fun, Ron had to be the caller this year so the kids and I sat and waiting patiently for one of our numbers to be called. Brayden was so serious, waiting, waiting, waiting.... finally one of our numbers was called-it was a meat thermometer/fork, funny to see his reaction as he didn't get why he couldn't get the water blasters he knew were in the back of the truck. Becca sat right next to him and every once in a while would say "ohhhh, I like that" It was very cute and I was pleasantly surprised how well they did without winning any kid toys.
We ended the day out at walmart and got a pool for the kids-not an easy task when both kids who can talk have an opinion on which one looks fun. I don't think it will matter when we fill it up and they can jump and swim and stay somewhat cool in the slowly rising tulsa heat.
