Some days can be filled with the constant reminder that we live in a sinful world. These days are exhausting and take hourly reminders of faith to combat the world around me, and my sinful nature within. Thankfully there are days like yesterday that fill my life with hope and simply...make me smile! We love Saturdays and yes, soccer and activities. But to have a Saturday free of anything but just time together has not occurred in some time. Yesterday was a day just for us-at home! There are many hours in a day so of course there was plenty time for work. House work, yard work...all complete with complaining and tears. I said this day made me smile...some how complaining and whining never go away and some days I deal with it better than others. After pulling the house together-three days of field trips this week has left it's mark on the house. Fall weather has finally come and with the rain holding off it was a day to enjoy the outdoors-besides the yard work. As Ron finished we decided to get our pumpkins for carving and get rid of some old bread. I thought feeding the ducks would be for James who has always loved feeding them but how fun was it to watch all the kids have fun feeding them. Becca was getting chased by the big guys, Brayden was rolling bread and having fun seeing how fast the ducks would swim to his thrown pieces of bread. James was just loving that the "big Honker" wasn't eating his legs. I was just enjoying seeing all the kids have fun together-I love these moments!
It was on to enjoy a little of Turkey Mountain before the sun set. Ron got the bikes together and we headed out. The upper lot was open and the kids were off to ride a loop while I got some time to myself with lilly-peaceful. Peaceful is enjoyable but so is fun with everyone...who caught up with me and we all ended up riding/running the path. Lilly had the most fun off leash running along side the kids.
Oh My Goodness...they were all smiling??!?!!
We found this old wheel along side a pond...love that the kids notice the colors surrounding them.
After enjoying the beauty and fall colors we decided we were to grimy to go anywhere but home. So we decided to enjoy another mini-cookout. Seems that we have plenty of dead wood for fires and the kids are always great with cooking hotdogs over a fire. Yeah for easy dinners at home! This fire was complete with music as ORU was having a huge party and a great band that we could hear. Then it was on to pumpkins. Last year I let this go, sometimes these extra things are just too much. But we stuck to simple-no big fall party this year and had a great time.
Ready to carve...I don't know what they were most excited about-decided on a face, taking out the "guts" or actually carving the pumpkin.
The finished products.
Brayden carved his totally by himself this year...even Andrea did a good portion of hers.
If that wasn't enough to pack into our day while the kids were showering ORU decided to end the evening with a huge display of fireworks. It was like a private showing. All night Becca kept saying ORU was going to do fireworks and what a way to finish the day! Some days are just refreshing and I so thankful that the Lord blesses us with these days every now and then.
