This past week was as a much needed break for all of us from our school routine-YEAH for fall break! We managed to load up and leave right after school on Tuesday. I was not sure how in the world I was going to fit everything in the car-as I felt I had piles all over the house. From clothes, camping gear, dog stuff, winter gear, food...I felt like I was packing a house! We managed, thanks to the topper and headed out. Our first stop was Hayes KS. It was nice only driving five hours and taking a break. In the morning we stopped at the Museum in Hayes, would you know it was National Fossil day so it was free admission, and the place was ready for a bunch of school field trips rolling in that day. It was a lot of fun looking at all the fossils found in KS. The kids favorite part was seeing a two headed snake and then telling the volunteers all about their turtles...I think they thought they were crazy when the kids said their turtles names were flash, marshmallow and fluffy!

The best part was seeing the kids faces when they realized the dinosaurs actually moved!
We arrived later in the day Wednesday to David and Linnea's house. We all loved seeing baby Wills smiles. David had the hot tub up and running to the kids made full use of it....along with their awesome tree swing.
Thursday we loaded their truck up to the max and headed out to Golden Gate State Park. Yes, a state park...no back country, barely in the foothills, BUT it had a great bathroom, which goes a long way when you have a bunch of kids. The first hike was a "short" hike around in the park. It didn't quite go as planned and we ended up hiking much farther-missing a short cut and our ride home. Thankfully we managed to connect with Ron and the truck and make it back to camp-typical.
Setting up the new tent.
Will was such a cutie, full of smiles as long as he was outside.
We kept warm by the fire, thankfully the guys found a ton of fire wood that helped keep it going. Linnea filled us all up with some super new yummy desserts...so good we didn't even break out the smores!
Friday was the big hike day. I can't even remember where we were...I think my brain was O2 deprived. The kids were determined to make it to a snow field but by the time we hit the second lake..after hiking around LONG lake we were all pretty wiped out. James plugged along, either jumping rocks, falling every two feet on the frozen mud/ice or riding on Ron's shoulders. I think the scenery is what kept us going-AMAZING!
David and Brayden made it to a very small snow field while the rest of us bit the dust on the boulders, our hiking party kept dwindling as people started falling off and sitting.
Even Lilly met her match!
On our way down we literally walked apon a Moose...a HUGE moose-just so cool to see and give us a bit of a lift to finish the hike. We all had some big headaches after we reached the bottom-finished almost all our jolly ranchers and poor Brayden met his match-loosing his lunch a couple time in the car (don't know why he was in the way back) and then again in a parking lot monitored by police-who were a bit concerned.
Still smiles even at the end! What hike, What a Beauty! More pics and videos will have to be posted tomorrow! Too many fun memories to talk about.
