Salt Plains

Time is just flying this past Saturday we decided to take advantage of the cooler weather and take a day trip to the Salt Plains.  The past couple time we have headed out to this area the temps have been in the 100s and usually we would end up with a couple kids crying in the car.  This year we were dodging rain clouds but managed to stay dry...and cool!
The terrain never ceases to amaze me when we drive up to this preserve.  It is so desolate and so crazy to see after driving in the prairie lands of OK.

We didn't have any kids crying this year, cooler weather seemed to make the mud more tolerable and keep away the smell and bugs.  Ron hit a hole with some huge crystals, lots of single ones this year-no big clusters.  We did almost lose a pair of flip flops...wondering around in the salt flat is endless and trying to figure out where the kids ran, even more impossible.  Would you know they were at their START line??  The kids made a huge course by dragging the shovel all around the holes, but do you think Andrea could remember where she had taken them off.  I had about given them up for loss and was heading back in when we spotted them....AND OUR FLAT TIRE.
Yes, middle of no where, closest town is Jet OK which is about nothing. Although we did discover the Artesion Spring-wonderful free flowing spring water.  All this after making an big effort to take the van in twice earlier in the week only to have them tell me they could not find a leak!  Anyway 3 hours later we made it back into OK on the little spare, and now I know where they hide the thing on our car.

 She cracks me up...and smile.
