Memorization....not our stong point

For Wednesday nights at church the kids are a part of Bible Blast.  We read the bible and work on questions during the week and then they quiz them on Wednesday, along with lots of fun songs to help them remember different bible passages.  The kids can earn Bible Bucks (which they spent on little toys) for memorization that they recite before the big class starts.  Anyway, we have been working slowing through the "ABC's" verses...  All have sinned Romans 3:23, Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved: Acts 16:31, and so on.  We have been doing one verse per week and sometimes this is a stretch.  I always feel a little funny when other kids leave the room with a big smile saying they completed the beatitudes, or the O.T books.  Anyway, this week we decided to tackle something a little bigger, the Lords Prayer and the Disciples....only because we have been saying the Lords Prayer at bedtime and singing the 12 disciples song for weeks now.  Turns out...still not an easy thing.  The kids tend to slide over names they can't hear or pronounce.  Who would think that Alphaeus would be such a hard name to say, along with Thadedeus.  I must talk too fast because the Lords Prayers was just a mess, all thy's were my's and who even knows what they were saying for the word Hallowed.  Well we worked hard-lots of repetition, which made for mad and frustrated kids.  Turned out Brayden actually said it correctly while playing the Wii-what ever!  In the end it turned out that Brayden did not pass and the lady listening to him said he cried-oh, such a hard lesson to learn.  Becca passed but we all forgot to memorize the bible reference-my fault  I am thinking we are going to go back to completing the "ABC's. I love seeing their faces light up when they say their one little verse,  I remember all the worry of memorizing endless piano music and I could see that worry in Brayden's face tonight.   I was talking to a mom yesterday and reminded how easily that "Tiger mommy" can rear it's head.  I really do want my kids to always try their hardest and do my best to encourage them.... but everyone now and then I find myself pushing a little too hard, it is time for this Tiger mommy to retreat!
