FISHING

A perfect night to sit around the pond

What a catch, within the first five minute of fishing. The pond must be full of some hungry fish because there was a lot of action last night.

I don't know what was more captivating, watching the fish get cleaned, or watching the looks on my kids faces.

Andrea spent most of the night just playing around. She tried so hard to keep up with the kids and daddy. After another crying episode she decided to sit and enjoy some animal crackers.

Just in case you don't know how ugly a catfish is!

Becca, enjoyed seeing the fish get reeled in but didn't have much interest in the fishing part.

Go, Brayden Go!

To happy kids, one unsure mommy!

I can hardly believe that the summer activities are upon us. Last night we took the kids to the fishing clinic at the Tulsa Aquarium. Brayden has been asking about it most of the week and practicing his casting with Becca's pink princess reel in the back yard. So, it was quite the night when we caught around 6 fish. This year they have a board which you can get your picture put on if you catch one of the biggest catch fish....pretty big incentive for Brayden. Anyway, seems like the fish are getting bigger and bigger. The guy next to us pulled in a five pound cat fish. Brayden's biggest was around 2 pounds, and wow they like to fight, I swear one about ate his bobber and our line snapped multiple times. It was so fun to see Brayden try to reel them in-such a huge grin with concentration on his face. Becca was the onlooker with mostly concern on her face. She is so cute to listen to. After the first catfish, we went up to weigh it and then the guy in charge offered to fillet it.....great, just what I want, Brayden was all for it-Becca, not so much. Anyway, after watching it flop around in the sink the guy slammed it on the cutting board and took an electric knife to it. Andrea starting crying, Becca watching in horror, then turned to me and said, "Are they hurting the fish?" I told her, yes because it didn't look to good to me. She then looked up at me with huge eyes and said, " We don't do that to God's animals, mommy" I totally agreed, not so much Ron. Funny thing was by the end of the night she had no problem carrying her fillets as long as she wasn't going to have to eat the blood.

We ended the evening with Brayden, crying in the car thinking he was going to become a fish. I don't know where he got the thought but we told all kids that they couldn't do anything until they had washed their hands. Next thing I hear is Brayden from the back seat. "I didn't wash my hands mommy........I sucked my thumb a little......am I going to be a fish?" Yes, he was dead serious!!

Wow, what a catch! So...are you frying up the fish for dinner tonight? Good luck with that one--you better have lots of tarter sauce or ketchup. I had to laugh at Andrea starting to cry when they cut up the fish-precious! Have a great day :)

Very cute pictures and story. I remember going fishing with my dad and brothers growing up. Your blog entry brings back some good memories. However, I never liked putting the worm on the hook or touching the fish!
