Summer Volunteering, Baking, Boating, Biking...all things summer

I hate to even say that its July.  Only because the kids will head off to camp for a week and usually after they return the last part of our summer vacation goes even faster than the first and school and too much responsibilities come way to fast.  We are enjoying all our free time and for now the kids are counting down the days they get to go to camp.  Sunday is the big day and packing and lists are in full swing!

Summer heat and humidity are here....I have never sweat so much.  We have given in and just drink lots of water and have lots of wet and sweaty clothes.  But have spent some time at sky zone-summer parties with extra space makes fun for everyone!

One last church camp with a friend-friendship camp, a great time with lots of daily themes.  Andrea was on the yellow team!!  From Water Olympics, swimming, climbing these kids had a huge week of fun.  Becca was all about volunteering for next year.

What to do with Becca on our days at home...swim of course but lots of baking.  This week she found a book at the library and we decided to tackle on of the recipes.  Three hours later the cake was complete.  Lots of miss steps but it all held together.  We all decided cake was good but the layers eaten by themselves were even better!  A couple week before the girls did a taste test between five different types of rice krispie bars....which do you think won best?

Brayden spent a week volunteering-or rather being a Junior Camp Counselor in training for the Kamp Kanakuk week that met at our school.  He worked every day 8-4 and had a good time hanging out with a bunch of kids for the week.  Kamp Kanakuk is a big camp in Missouri that lots of families have grown up going to.  They also have a mobile camp that meets in Tulsa and other towns.  Its a great way to grown kids in Christ.   Link to Kamp Kanankuk

The mobile camp brings a lot of "toys" and one evening they opened them up to the volunteers and host families to use.  Thanks to Brayden the other kids had a lot of fun!

James is still plugging along at summer ball....discovered one of his team mates is the Governor's son-after wondering who was showing up to the game in full blown suits (if you know our weather you would know why that's crazy) only to find out it was the Governor's guys and he came shortly after to watch a game.

Becca said we had to try out all the benches along this trail??

wild raspberry discovery along a trail....we bike in groups, this was the discovering while waiting for the boys to finish their trail.

Weekend before the fourth, after a cancellation of a 6v6 soccer tournament we took the free weekend and headed to Bentonville Arkansas.  Some really neat mountain bike trails.  We had a great time biking...although I did come home with some pretty good road rash and for a moment thought I might be done biking/running for good.

Some relaxing along the lake in the evening.

Clear water and lots of fun spots to play and jump!  Beaver lake is beautiful!

The next day we were up early and tried something new-renting a boat.  It turned out to be so much fun and could have spent the entire day on the lake having fun.  Beaver lake was beautiful-clear and warm!

The guy had to be so tired by the end of the day-he loved tubing even after he would fly off the tube numerous time.  His body had to be so sore!

After tubing for a couple hours we decided to turn the tube in and try out water skiing.  Turned out to be a lot of fun.  I learned to drive the boat and Ron was able to get up and ski for a bit-dropping one and remembered how to ski one ski.  Brayden wasn't one to go first but Becca was all about learning and after some tips on the water popped right up!

James actually wanted to try after seeing Becca.  It took a couple trys for him to get up but I was shocked when he managed to stay up and have a bit of fun!
Andrea took a couple trys to get up and wasn't able to stay up very long....sadly we were running out of time and didn't have long enouph to give her more practice.  Brayden eventually tried it out and got up along with myself.  It was a super fun morning!

And of course we have been doing seemingly endless house work as we have been home alot!!  Lots of sweating going on and we are going through a ton of Italian ice...90 in a box from Sams!!  This week it was the Red Tip Photinia bushes at the top of the  property....over come with fungus (thanks to abnormal amount of rain) this is my last ditch effort to revive and save them.  After this week I think the kids would rather just burn them all!!  And yes the running effort continues during the heat of the summer...lots of sweat but some new running shoes has helped a bit.
