They both were ready to stay another week-so much fun.
Brayden talked non-stop about playing air soft and every other crazy game they did. Becca talked alot of her horse and just having fun with new friends. She ended up sharing a bunk with another little girl with red hair and she said they both giggled the most all week-she is so funny!
After picking up the kids we headed out to Ron's annual area geologist shrimp boil. I am not sure how everything falls on the same weekend but.... The ribs were yummy and shrimp delicious. After loading up on the food-kids on cookies we headed down town to watch some of the crit races and then have the kids ride in the kids race. By now the sun was out and it was hot...making for some not very happy kids! Brayden was too old for the kids races-a couple of boys he knows from cyclocross actually raced in the Junior Race-too hot and too long, they were all pretty beat when they crossed the finish line.
James was pretty excited to race this year-no pink bike. He gets a little panicky with all the people and craziness but once he was out there and realized Ron was going to help him start he was great. His bike was a little big and he still had a little hard time starting. His dismount is a flying leap!
The girls were in the older kids race. They were so hot and about finished since we had to stand for about 30min waiting for the junior crit race to finish. Andrea was full of speed and power. Funny thing was I thought she was Becca because she was wearing a skirt Becca used to wear. I kept thinking-WOW Becca is bookin it this year. Then I realized it was little Andrea peddling like mad.
Becca was in the race-just a bit further back peddling at her own pace. I think she would let everyone pass her just because she is that kind of girl, she makes me smile!
My proud little guy.
My crabby hot bunch!
A little cooling off at the splash pad along the route happiness was back in the picture
....................for almost everyone, now she was too cold!
Sunday the rain really set in and instead of joining the crowds of people for the traditional Townie Ride-which was cancelled we waited for a break in the rain and rode our bikes to watch the last of the Pro Riders. they are just amazing and seeing them ride in slick, wet conditions was just crazy. It seemed like every other rider had some sort of road rash or bandage, splint on. It was a lot of fun watching-even the kids had fun running into friends is always fun, most fun was bumming food off of the young life tent. Having a great group like Young Life that Ron bikes with make these events even more fun, so many people participating in so many different ways, driving pace cars, cheering, racing, race route safety. Too bad the rain didn't hold off and the race finished in a down pour and a big wreck. We all ended up biking back to the car in the rain. I was cold and wet...thankfully the kids thought it was the best fun.
This Video has some really fun shots of the crit racing and how fast, crazy it is. Ignore the cry baby hill section...some things you just need to avoid!!
