SUMMER VACATION

I realize I have not been updating as much as in the past.  Once again the kids are growing way to fast, time is just sprinting and I am left chasing...which in the end leaves me exhausting but happy.  I am loving having the kids home without the routine of school.  Yes, we do have the fighting, the nagging, bugging but somehow when it is quiet I miss all the craziness that can frustrate and anger me.  So, what is going on?  James is starting to potty train.  I am slow on the ball and letting him do most of the work.  I just love seeing his little bare buns run through the room with him yelling potty.  More fun is listening to him while he is in the bathroom and his description of what is occurring.  He is demanding, loud and hates to defer from a routine but never lacks for smiles and giggles.  The kids love him, smother him, spoil him...he is WELL taken care of.  James loves to swim and is a show off on the diving board with his silly little dances.  Andrea and Becca have been best of buds...which means love and hate this summer.  I can find the doll house set up with every little play dog, a bed full of "My Little Ponys, a stack of books in both their beds, I never know what is going through their heads.  Computer is always a past time, The American Girl Doll site is the hot game spot the past couple of week.  Becca is still the constant helper-always making Andrea's bed in the morning. The other day they made a tent and had a slumber party, complete with tickets flashlights, books and lots of animals.  I love their imagination. Brayden is happiest when his is playing with friends and thankfully we have a neighbor boy who is able to hang with him.  He keeps the Wii and Computer warm on most hot summer days.  Swimming is top of the list for all the kids.  Last week Brayden did his one and only summer sports camp-football.  Amazing ( a little disappointing to me)  he loved it-full pads one hundred degree temps and he just ate it up.  Guess I will just take a deep breath-enjoy his smiles, PRAY and enjoy the football season...although I might lament soccer just a bit!  Summer is not all fun, although Brayden tries to convince me otherwise most mornings.  The kids have been working on jobs most mornings and I think we might actually have them all complete the summer reading program this coming week.  Not a lot of school work gets done...once again between kids, house work, reading, some fun, dinners, and yes some time for myself the days just fly by.  We have loved the free summer movies, the aquarium, pool and activities associated with the library-last week a fun magic show leaving us all stumped!  My only wish is for another month of some at home time, it is hard for me to look forward to school starting next month!  I should say that kids stuff is not the only thing Ron and I do/enjoy.  Ron has been back into biking-even in this hot heat and I am doing my best to keep up.  Mornings are the time to get out whether it is running or biking usually one of us is out enjoy  the outdoors.
This weekend we decided to escape the heat and heat to OKC, still hot but some more things to do inside.  We had fun exploring the Natural History Museum and the Science Museum.  Both have tons of hands on exhibits-keeps the kids busy and gives my mind a little stimulation after reading "Mudge" and "Bisquit" books!  We stopped at a little place called "POPS" along the way.  They carried every kind of pop you could imagine.  My favorite was a black cherry creme.  Anyway, on to another week.  I actually forgot my camera this weekend (I must be getting old!!) and discovered our old point and shoot in my purse-so just  couple shots.

POPS, kind of a glorified gas station-super busy along the historic Route 66

The kids actually had a good time learning about this traveling exhibit-all about dinosaurs discovered in China.

Do you know the difference between a Woolly Mammoth and a Mastodon??

This is why we love these museums, the exhibits are great for kids-all hand on and tons of things to looks at.  This room was filled with the noises of the forrest, complete with a grunting bear (James wasn't too sure about it)
 Canoe time.

Not a whole lot of pics from the Science Museum.  After
a relaxing morning at the hotel we hit the opening door
and never stopped going, the planetarium, science show
and a dome movie where our only sitting breaks-I think
Ron and I both wished they all lasted another 30min!
The kids hit the museum running, from exhibit to
exhibit-finally ready to leave around five!  I was exhausted
I think they could have stayed another hour till closing.  A
great place to go escape the heat and have a little learning
and a lot of fun!
