Turkey Mountain Trails

This is the map that I created for the Adventure Race. The race started at Turkey Mountain with a trail run then a mountain bike ride along the river to the Tulsa Rowing Club. Then a 2.5 mile Canoe, and then biking back to Turkey Mountain to finish. Along the course were 23 check points that you had to stop at and punch a card. I have map out and made posters for a couple of trail runs at Turkey Mountain, and last fall and winter I systematicly ran, GPS'ed and mapped as close to all of the trails I could find at Turkey Mountain. It took more than a dozen weekends running for a hour or two to run all of the trails. Basically it is like a spiders wed of trails splitting off in all directions with all kinds of little short cuts connecting the trails together. So using my trail map as a background I rode the course with the race director saving the trail with the GPS and marking the check points as waypoints. Using ArcView GIS I mad a detail map of Turkey Mountain with all of the trails, highlighting the course in Red and Green. I also created a overview map of the entire course showing the biking to downtown and the canoe portion of the course. Overall it was a fun project making the map, and then getting to participate in the race. This link is to the race report from Tulsa Runner.
